Geiger Counter with Geiger Tube is one kind of Electronic Circuit System used to measure nuclear radiation. we are showing how to assemble and solder one Geiger-counter with discrete electronic components such as Resistance capacitance transistor and so on.

Small parts are stored in small cases asshown below when you receive the kits. Geiger tube is stored with protecting plasticpipe. Make sure the Geiger tube will not drop down from desk, otherwise itcould be broken, since the vacuum tube is really fragile.

The materials are arranged in order “Leftto Right, up to down” as Bill of Materials bellow.

Now, let’s make it:

Step 1: let’s take out PCB, we could seethe white silk which tells us where to put the Resistors or capacitors or correspondingmaterials.

Step 2: Take out number 1 materials, two capacitors 100uf/16v plug into C1,C2 silk.

You can use an electric soldering iron tosolder this device, one long-nose pliers is used to remove the Long pins aftersoldering. All the solder joints should be around and smooth without faultysoldering as shown in the right figure below. Solder wire and rosin arealso essential materials. A multimeter is often used to measure the resistanceof a color ring resistor.

Step 3: Assemble number 2 materials. 0.1uf capacitorsfor silk C3, C23, C24, C66. 104 means 10*10000pf=100nf=0.1uf. there is no polarityfor this kind of Ceramic capacitors.

Step 4: One by one, you could assemble andsolder all the parts on this board. You could get one assembled and solderedboard as shown below.

There are some parts have polarity such as electrolyticcapacitor, diode(1N4937, LED

), transistor(S8050, KSP42). For chipsthere is First pin identification method, which could be gotten on datasheetfor the chip, on this board there is NE555 and LM358 are been used.

Step 5, testing the board.

Power on the board with USB to 5.5-2.1 powerconnector, switch on S1 Power on switch.

Use one 10M multimeter (most multimetersare with 10M internal resistance)test voltage of J2, get 58V voltage withadjustment knob.

Now you could hear the beeping sound ofGeiger counter with LED flashing.

Enjoy it!
